The problem
Starting a business means a long list of decisions before you’ve made a single sale: what structure to trade under, what you need to register for, what records to keep from day one, and what you’ll owe HMRC and when. Getting it wrong early is far more expensive to unwind later than it would have cost to get right from the start.
What’s included
The New Business Starter is a first-year onboarding package for sole traders and small limited companies, covering everything needed to begin trading on a proper footing:
- Initial consultation – we get to know your business: what you’re selling, expected income, costs, and what you want the business to become.
- Business structure guidance – a plain-English explanation of sole trader versus limited company, and which fits your situation.
- Getting started – support registering your business and the right HMRC registrations, plus your accounting set up from the outset.
- Bookkeeping setup – a system for invoices, receipts, expenses and bank transactions that you can actually keep up with.
- Tax planning – what you’ll owe, when, and how to plan and set money aside for it rather than being surprised.
- Ongoing compliance – your agreed accounts, tax returns, and VAT/payroll services if and when you need them.
- First-year review – a clear picture of your financial position and your first filing deadlines.
Who it’s for
Sole traders and small limited companies in their first year of trading – whether you’ve just started, or you’re about to.
How it works
We start with the initial consultation to understand your business, then work through structure, registration and bookkeeping setup together. From there, ongoing accounting (returns, VAT, payroll as needed) continues as a separate service – sold separately or bundled monthly, agreed with you upfront, not added as a surprise.
A note on your first year’s deadlines
First-year filing deadlines can catch new business owners out, especially for limited companies: your first accounting period and your first Corporation Tax accounting period don’t always line up, which can mean two Corporation Tax returns are due in your first year rather than one. We’ll explain exactly what applies to your business and when, as part of the first-year review.
Pricing
The Starter package is quoted based on your business structure and circumstances – see our Pricing page for what affects your quote, or get in touch directly.
FAQs
Is ongoing accounting included in the Starter package?
No – the Starter package covers getting set up properly in your first year. Ongoing accounting (returns, VAT, payroll) is a separate service, sold separately or bundled into a monthly arrangement, always agreed with you in advance.
I’ve already started trading – is it too late?
No. The Starter package works whether you’re about to begin or you’ve been trading for a few months and want to make sure everything is set up correctly.
