The problem
A Self Assessment return has to capture every source of income correctly – employment, self-employment, property, dividends, savings – and HMRC’s own guidance doesn’t always make clear which parts apply to you. Getting it wrong risks an under- or over-payment, or a penalty for a late or incorrect return.
What’s included
- Preparation of your full Self Assessment return
- Guidance on what income and expenses need to be declared
- Calculation of what you owe, explained before it’s filed
- Advice on Payments on Account where they apply
- Filing with HMRC once you’ve approved the figures
Who it’s for
Anyone who needs to file a Self Assessment return – sole traders, company directors, landlords, or anyone with income HMRC doesn’t automatically see through PAYE.
How it works
Send us your income and expense records for the tax year. We prepare the return, talk you through what it shows and what you owe, and file it once you’re happy – with enough time before the deadline to plan for the payment, not just the paperwork.
Pricing
Priced around the complexity of your income sources – see our Pricing page for what affects your quote.
FAQs
What’s the deadline for filing and paying?
The well-known deadline is 31 January following the end of the tax year, for both online filing and payment. [Confirm current HMRC deadlines before publishing.]
Do I need to file if I’m employed and only have a small amount of extra income?
Possibly, depending on how much and what kind of income it is – HMRC has thresholds for when extra income needs declaring even if you’re taxed through PAYE on your main job. [Confirm current thresholds before publishing.] Get in touch if you’re not sure.
What if I’ve never filed a return before?
You’ll need to register with HMRC for Self Assessment before you can file, which has its own lead time – the earlier you start, the less rushed it is. We can guide you through registration as well as the return itself.
Can you help if I’m late filing a previous year?
Yes – this is more common than people expect, and the longer it’s left the more interest and penalties build up. Get in touch and we’ll work out where things stand.
